Superb example of a well maintained 1983 tabbed 50 Summicron (11819) containing all tweaks in the Canadian production run based on the later tab design and serial #. Cosmetics conservatively rate very close to mint due to slight wear to the black finish, primarily where the hood clamps on to the lens. Paint fills are still bright with clean edges. The glass is free of scratches, haze or fungus and the B+W MRC UV filter is LN. Virtually no internal dust when checked with a bright LED torch. Diaphragm click stops are crisp and the blades are dry. Focus ring action is perfectly balanced, one of the best I've ever encountered with a Summicron, especially a tabbed version. Not too tight like many when new or too loose if heavily used, so use of the tab is quick yet decisive without any under or overshooting of exact focus.
The 12585 metal hood is in nice condition with no deformation and shows normal signs of external wear to the finish, mostly along the leading edges.
The lens had a thorough CLA with DAG in 2008 by the previous owner to put it in top condition. Historically, it's the fourth and final Mandler version whose optical design and coatings match the current Summicron, but in a lighter more compact package. It accepts a clip-on shade for superior flare resistance and better protection to the front glass from environmental elements or errant fingers compared to current version with it's very short sliding hood.
