p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Which wide-angle?

Looking to get a wide angle lens to go along with my 50mm 1.8 and 70-200mm 2.8. I shoot with a Canon 60d and do mostly portraits/every day type stuff. Would like a solid lens to get a wider view on things that I try to do.

I've got a Tokina 12-24/f4 and it's been great for me!

I guess it depends on how wide you want to go. if at the moment the 50 prime is your widest then anything much wider will seem quite a bit wider.

if its a wide standard you want then the 17-55 IS is top of the tree (for crop) followed by the 15-85 IS or the 3rd party lenses like the Tamron 17-50 (non VC better than VC) or sigma 17-70 .

Uwa would be the 10-22 12/24 (tokina) 11-16/2.8 or the sigma 10-20 (either) . all are very good lenses.

But then you may find that a 24-70 type lens would better serve you .

Well, at this point I guess a 35 f/2 could be recommended as "wide"...
I'm going to parrot myself once again... 17-55 f/2.8 IS is the best lens I've used for a standard on my 7D and other EF-s mount bodies.

EFS 15-85 IS: Good range, slow optics
EFS 17-55 IS: Sharp wide open, f/2.8, excellent for low light
EF 17-40L: FF compatible, sharp stopped down to f/5.6, excellent colours and contrast

Yeah I just really need something that is wider then what I have. I really have no wideness at all with my lenses.

Sigma 8-16mm is the widest without being fishy. Looks sharp. Costs around $700, which is on par with the other lenses mentioned. No filter though.

I would go with the 17-40L. Good range to complement what you already have.

A fact not to be overlooked if you normally use (or need) protective filters with your lenses. I picked up a fisheye that doesn't take filters and now, having used it for a while, there is always that concern there about scratching that bulbous front lens element, which ends up limiting my use of the lens.

The 17-40/4 L and eventually the Tokina 11-16/2.8
