I could never find anything saying that it is sealed against moisture -- doesn't mean that its not, I just couldn't verify it. I hope you enjoy the lens, I will miss its brilliant optical qualities but not the weight when I am backpacking.

You could say that. It's a black L that resembles a...wait for it...drainpipe with the hood attached.
Gorgeous bokeh/colors AND at 200mm wide open it rivals the 200 f2.8L in sharpness. Classic lens

If anyone else extols the virtues of the MDP anymore, I am going to be very sad -- I'm trying to forget how great it is and remember that I needed a lighter lens. Yes, its that good....

A bit ironic that a lens known as the drainpipe is not water resistant? Good thing Canon isn't responsible for the nickname, or it could be seen as false advertising!

I obtained one of PetKal's pipes from Tanglefoot. Great lens. I moved up(?) to a 70-200 MKII and sold the pipe locally. Like Reno, I wish that I still had it.
