Hi, all. It would be much appreciated if someone would verify whether these are black bear tracks, or from another critter. They were in an area of soft mud. The location is NE NJ, where at least one bear has been sighted in recent days. They seem to match Google images for that species.
It's pretty close to where I live but I don't remember dropping a quarter
Now, I'm not an expert in spoor but I can't imagine it could be anything else but a black bear...no grizzes here and sasquatch moved to the Pacific NW long time ago.
Neat find and I'm sure someone can make a positive ID
Eric
Yep, black bear no doubt. I'm up in Wantage, west of you and up until the two bear seasons had them in the yard quite frequently, but still run into them while hiking. I'd post a shot of a cub in a tree top "nest" from a week ago, but on the wrong computer.
