We recently did a school photoshoot. But wanted to add a bit of a twist to the school portraiture.
This idea was born after reminiscing with a bunch of old school friends on Facebook. Not a single one of us are doing what we wanted to do when we were young. I wanted to be a F-14 fighter pilot! And one of the guys that I know wanted to be a WWF wrestler. Yup. A pro wrestler. Like most of us, we just grew up and did something else. He has become an accountant with Ernst & Young.
It was our first time doing school photos. We didn't quite know what to expect going into a school photoshoot. Will the children all run amok? Slap the blackboards at my camera? At me? We have absolutely no clue! But the kids were just great. Absolutely a blast!
Really cool. Canerino did something very similar some time ago with kids at his school, but they're much older - I think high school age. It's neat to see the difference between what kids this young and high school wanna be.
Really awesome execution as well. I don't know if Chuck still does his, but I hope you keep doing these and sharing with us.
Wow! Hey thanks for the kind comments!
School photography isn't our main focus. But it is more fun than I thought. We learned quite a bit. It is a logistical nightmare in terms of ordering procedure. I'm glad my wife handled the admin stuff.
The photoshoot itself was great though. The kids really was enjoying it too. If anything I am most inspired by their sincerity.
@morganb4, bbourizk, no_surrender: thanks! Glad I manage to put a smile for your day.
@innovis: Yes, it worked out real well! Normally lots of parents ordered and re-ordered this. That is over and above a 100% order of the regular school photos. So we're glad.

Ghost, I'm guessing the kids told you what they wanted to be and you or an assistant wrote it on the chalk board for them? I'd be curious to see how they would turn out if the kids wrote it themselves. Some of them are probably too young to have good hand-writing skills though. I'm definitely going to have to do this with my kids!
@no_surrender: We disseminated the order form ahead of time. It's an "Order & Pay First" process. In the form we included this optional package. If they want it. The parents/child will put in what he/she wants to be. Then when the shoot begins, my wife (assistant) will write down the 'career' of choice for the kid on the board. We have 2 boards to help keep the flow at a good pace.
Just want to say that this is our first time doing a school shoot. Many thanks to resident FM-er Tim Park for his tips and advice.
