I need a larger printer, presently using the 3880. The 7890, at 24in, will fill my present need. The larger 9890 is only about $600 more and I am tempted- just so I do not have to buy bigger later if a different need arises. My question - is there any downside to the 9890 besides price and size if I will only be printing 24" prints for the foreseeable future? Size of printer is not presently an issue, have the room.
Thoughts?
Thanks
Gary
If size (space) is not an issue, then go for the 44" printer. If you ever want to do gallery wrapped canvas, you will find yourself severely limited by a 24" printer. My biggest mistake in starting to print "in-house" was buying a 7800. I sold it within months (at a big loss) and got the right printer: 9800.
I'm now running a 9900 and expect to convert the 9800 to B&W piezography.
Thanks
I thought the only difference was a wider carriage, but wanted to confirm.
My main concern, as kdphoto noted is that next year I need a larger printer- would rather only purchase this thing once.
Thanks for the insight and letting me learn from your experience

I'm looking at these printers too in Australia, the 7890 is $5650 and the 9890 is $9350. I don't understand why the price is so different between America and Australia.
I want to do 30x30" square prints but don't think I'll be able to afford the 9890, especially after I purchase a Pentax 645D, not to mention that the printer is huge. I'll probably end up going to a lab for the 30" prints.
I've just started looking at purchasing the printer from the USA instead, freight and Australian customs are the biggest issues though.
