This could also apply to the older MK1+ II version of the Canon 600 users as well.
I am in the process of getting a lovely 300-800 from a member on the board and am wondering about the ability to use that beast on a sturdy monopod (as I hate lugging my tripod around for those long walkabouts I like.. )
My LLT is "ok" as I have used it with my old 600 MK1 in the past and gotten decent shots.
Just wondering if there are any tips on how to make it a more feasible option for me.
Not ready to shell out $11K+ for an 800 IS just yet.
Yes it can be done if using fast shutter speeds. Note though that the Sigmonster is very front heavy and you've to be careful when using it on a monpod.

Yes I have the 800 IS. But using a Sigma or Canon, a 600 or 800. It doesn't really matter. You do it in the same way with the monopod. The IS will of course help for slower shutter speed. Otherwise it will be exactly the same
How are you planning to carry it? Will you sling the monopod over your shoulder with the lens mounted? That's how many people carry a supertele/tripod setup. But I would be concerned that a monopod carried in that way with an attached Sigmonster would not be able to take the weight of the lens (nearly 6kg, not including the camera body).

That's no problem if he use a strong monopod. Like a series 5 from Gitzo. Or similar from another brand
haha
ok, that is scary!
Thanks for the tip on the monopod as well!
I intend also to carry it by the base of the tripod stand on the Lens.
I also am worried about carrying lens over my shoulder..
