p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Canon 35mm f1.4 auto focus failure

Does anyone have any experience of the auto focus on a 35mm f1.4 failing? I used it for a few shoots earlier in the month, put it back in my bag then pulled it out yesterday. No warning and the lens is about 18 months ago.

Thanks in advance

Did you check the lens contacts? I've had a couple lenses fail to focus and cleaning the goo off the contacts immediately restored operation. Of course, other than that, the only other cure is Canon Service. If you go in person and flirt with the counter girls sometimes they will fix an out of warranty L optic for free. Worked for me exactly once but I was a bit cuter then...

You need to send it to Canon to get it repaired. Canon did an excellent service in my case.

Its quite easy to replace yourself if you have the balls.

I actually looked to see if i could unscrew the autofocus on off switch as you used to be able to on some older l lenses, but it is a sealed unit now and so i will retain small ball status and use it as a manual focus lens.
