p.1 #1 · Frazier, Niles, and Other Cranes @ Whitewater Draw (5x)
I had the occasion to visit SE Arizona's Whitewater Draw near Bisbee last January. It was estimated that 40,000 Sandhills were wintering there (one, two, three...aw, I give up! ) and it was indeed a remarkable sight to witness. And until I visit Bosque and Will, it will have to suffice. All shots were taken with the 7D/500 f4/1.4xTC combo, and this time I used a monopod instead of the BushHawk (I prefer the BushHawk). C and C welcome as always.

Thanks Larry. Well, of course they'd wheel around and fly even closer, too close for my 500 and 1.4, so as they're KFCs I ain't gonna post THOSE... And I like the ones that show the Sandys in their environment, with the mountains in the background, to give them some perspective.

Very nice work Steve 1, 3 and 4 are my picks of the set. I have never heard of this place. Learn something every day! Someday you'll have to show me your 2.4 tc

Whoops! That's what happens when one gets up at 3am...Thanks for pointing out the typo, Tim. But the Gyrfalcon here is real, even if the 2.4xTC ain't...

Good stuff, Steve.
All nice, but as far as birds alone go, I like the dynamics of the flying couple (last shot), and the background is what it is, but the image is strongly defined by the flyers.

Beautiful images, Steve. I like the warm tones in these
You also did a great job with these IF captures. Images are well in focus and show nice detail.
#3 is on top of my favorites.

You're right Peter, there are 2 kinds of shots here, either where the Sandhills are part of the overall image, or ARE the image. A birder friend of mine asked for an 11 x 17 of each kind, to see the birds in different perspectives.
