Was walking through one of the older neighborhoods the other evening, and noticed this old house with light coming out of the window. The scene was very dark and cold, and it intrigued me to the point that I thought I'd try to capture it with my cell phone camera. Had to underexpose somewhat to manage a handheld shot, and I did some P/P in Lightroom.
There is apparent banding/read noise from the sensor, but I didn't have my DSLR with me, so this will have to do. Would be happy to hear your comments and some tips on how to capture the mood of such scenes better.
Thanks for the comment. Here's another version with the exposure brought up some three stops. Had to add some grain to try and mask the banding, though. I actually prefer the darker shot myself, as well as the snowy power lines.
Anyway, I might try a similar shot where the only light available is coming from the cabin window.
I converted to B/W, adjusted the exposure, colour levels and added some vignetting and graduated filters.
I enjoy the mood of scenes like this, but I feel there's still a long way to go before I've learned/stumbled upon the right shooting and processing methods to produce a good photo out of them.
