Greg:
I like the effect of the starburst/flare in the second but it makes the image look muddy to me, I would experiment with contrast here. The first is very nice and crisp.
Douglas
Thanks Douglas. That lack of contrast was actually on purpose. I find I tend to push the contrast to high sometimes. Trying to find that balance. Comments on the forum are a great way to get feedback.
Neat to see, Greg. I was at that exact spot, trying to get a good starburst image too, last October.
I prefer the first image. The symmetries are nice, extending beyond the structure to the shapes in the water. The perspective is, of course, fine.
I agree with douglas about the second. I think it needs more contrast and would work better a bit more "crisp". Since its an angles shot, I kind of wish the starburst wasnt so much centered in this image, or that the pier angled away more dynamically.
Personally I wasnt too happy with what I came up with. Maybe I'll post one to see what others think since its a neat place.

Greg,
I sure like the rework on the second you have here. It would be cool to track the sun as it makes its way to the center of the pier and then on the day it is centered you could catch the symmetry of the first with the sun centered at the horizon in there as well.

Where did it go ?
Thanks Klaus. Sorry deleted image. Saw something I didn't like. Here is the rework.
Greg
Thanks Charlie. The original RAW file was more like the one that you reworked. I wanted to bring out more of the detail in the dark areas of the pier. To much? maybe, maybe not.
I do agree totally with you about that it does all come down to individual choice. Some like a soft moody look and others a more dramatic look with lots of detail. Unless pushed to far neither being incorrect.
