As noted in part 1, we did not see wildlife to speak of in the geyser basins, but were rewarded in the second half of our trip in Gardiner-Mammoth-Cooke City region. The bighorn were in the area along the Gardiner River generally referred to as "the canyon," just about halfway between Mammoth and Gardiner. They were a bit north of the area marked as closed for sheep management. And while the closed area looked lush, in a sort of Great Basin way, the sheep were on a relatively drab barren shale slope.
We saw them twice, in the morning, and again in the evening of our first day in the area. We were not able to get good photos in the evening due to the low light, but the animals crossed the road within 20 feet of us, going for a drink in the river. We did not see them again in our 5 day stay, despite considerable effort.
There were 3 animals in the morning, and by evening a 4th had appeared. These captures are of the three in the morning. Two were lying down, and the third was grazing. The grazer appeared to have a bum left rear leg. Other points of interest: The lack of snow cover is notable. The little light dots are some kind of midge or fly.
I am a learning photographer, and especially interested in PP. This is my first time applying blur. All comments, criticisms, suggestions etc are appreciated.
