My Canon 85mm 1.8's AF started hunting and is not locking on focus. I took it to the camera shop and they told me that it would cost me at least 80 and at most 150 to fix it. They think there is a problem with magnetic strip? Anyways, I don't know what to do. Should I fix it? Or sell it as is? If so, how much do you think I can get from it? Or should I just use it using manual focus. I just purchased 70-200 2.8 is ii, so I don't know how much I will use the 85mm. Thanks in advance for your advice!
Make sure that the contacts on both ends, the lens and body, are cleaned. It won't hurt to use the old trick of cleaning the lens' contacts using a soft pencil eraser. You will never know, it might work after that . If it still acts up, I would send it in to Canon and get it fixed. You can sell it for more after the repair than the way it is. I wouldn't let the lens end up as an expensive paperweight.
