Having the 16-35L, 24-70L 50 1.8 and 70-200 2.8L II in the bag, I've been itching for a prime. I typically shoot sports, severe weather, landscapes, occasional portraits and weddings.

Thoughts?

I've been considering the 35L or the 85L but the price difference is significant. Open to idea!

All the L primes are really good, it just comes down to which FL you prefer. Look at your images and find out what FL you are mostly shooting at and this should give you your answer. You can't go wrong with any of them - 24L, 35L, 50L, 85L, 135L

I like the 24L and 85L. What body are you using?

Have you considered 85/1.8? A very good value and won't make a huge dent on your wallet.

You can get a 35L and an 85/1.8 for about $200 cheaper than an 85L...win, win.

This would be my choice. I have all of them and although my 85LII is nice specialty lens it's not as well rounded as my 85 1.8 for a fraction of the price.

So the 35L is a must? I've half considered selling my 24-70L and picking up the 35L and an 85L. That would leave me a hole in the 35-70mm range though.

Nothing is a "must", just a recommendation. Personal opinions will vary.

Ok. That's a given. Just seems most people love the 35L.

I like the 35L on a FF but it's all personal preference.

On a cropper, I would vote for the 24.

I'd be using them on a 1D4.

If you shoot weddings, I wouldn't get rid of the 24-70. I agree with previous posts that all L primes are good, and you need to pick the one that best meets your needs. The 85L is a specialty lens because the focus is slow, and a little difficult to get the DOF right with such wide aperture choices. I don't own the 50L, but I'm assuming it's similar to the 85L. The 85L would be a good portrait lens though, particularly on a 1D4.

I do shoot the occasional wedding. Part of the reason I picked up the 24-70 in the first place.

Agreed. Got to have a med range zoom for events and weddings, I would want to cut that corner.. 85L does not seem to fit your use or if it does the 85 1.8 might suit it better.

I respectfully disagree about the need for a med range zoom for wedding and event work. For me I prefer having a set of fast primes in that range in combination with a 70-200/2.8 and a UWA zoom. I do, however, shoot two bodies in tandem which provides me with plenty of versatility.

I would strongly consider the 24 TSE II as it is such a different capability from the other zooms. Optically it is among Canon's best, which is really saying something given that it is a wide angle Canon lens.
