The sky turned out very good and the reflection too, but the timber is just pitch black. That could be tough to edit thru. If you did HDR, then it might be worth going back and making a different tonemap image just for the BnW conversion. I bet after a couple tries you would get it and have a great image.

Thank you - useful comments. I was doing this with a You Tube lesson guiding me step by step thru the colour version. I'll have another crack at it and see what it looks like.
Peter- I also like the basic shot.
With my simple tastes about such things, I added about +15 brightness and +35 contrast to the last image, and thought the improvement notable.
But then, I'm not sure what you're aiming for- specifically.

Thanks everybody for looking - I'd not tried HDR before and was really "painting by numbers" and was quite pleased with #1. The second attempt wasn't to my eye but I'm always grateful for the constructive input from my friends on this board.
