p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Intermittent Rear Control Wheel on 1D

Has anyone ever had trouble with an intermittent rear control wheel on 1D? Has anyone tried to remove the rear control wheel to get to the contact surface OR tried a DIY 'fix' similar to the one for sticking shutter buttons (using alcohol)?

I used a zero residue contact cleaner on a friends well worn 5D that he thought he would need to send in. Worked like a charm and has been working correctly ever since.
Make sure it's one safe on all electronics and plastics.

Maybe a sticking switch contact upper left of the control wheel? Work it a few times.

It's fairly simple to remove the back - peel up the grips and take out all the screws, lift the back and inch or so, disconnect the flexes. Putting some cleaner on the control wheel assembly from the inside usually works.

I use DeoxIt D. No idea what's in it, but given how effective it is I'm sure it's got all sorts of toxic, environmentally unfriendly chemicals. Stuff works though and it doesn't take very much. Deoxit Gold is, I believe, a gentler, more delicate formula so I don't bother with it.

The DeoxIt stuff is what I used.
