Thanx for that comparison, I also see that the Zeiss has smoother bokeh than the Canon.

No surprises there. Always felt the 35L had displeasing bokeh.

It seems to render bokeh a lot more diffusely that other 35mm lenses at the same aperture.

At 1.4 it is much nicer. Stopped down, difference is there just not as big a deal.
On my iPhone the first photo is softy.
