i predict they'll bottom out at 1500 for a little while due to the supply spike, but will return to a solid 1800-1900 for quite some time. Its such a good camera, after 3+ years old its' STILL luring canon shooters over to nikon

Check FM Buy and Sell - recent listings spanned the range of asking prices from $1850 to $2200. Some sellers are living in a dream and asking for $2400 to $2600 and so on on eBay or else those items are not really selling, or else there are idiots on ebay who don't keep track of current used prices.

A similar comment could be made about listing at $1800 on FM when Ebay is selling units at $2400. There is a reason for the saying " a fool and his money is soon parted". Either way, over time they will be a lot cheaper. A low click D700 for around $1500 sounds like a cheap backup to me!

However, there's no way I'd buy a used D700 at this point. It just doesn't have nearly enough resolution.

If you can be patient you will need to wait until the D800 is actually released and in the market place. That's when you will see prices really start to adjust. Did anyone who bought a D2x for $5,000 ever think they would be selling for $800? It's inevitable that D700, D3, and D3s prices will decline. With D700's now selling for under $2,000 it's not unreasonable to expect a 20% price adjustment as early as the middle of next year. For me I'm hoping to see a nice adjustment in D3s prices once a d4 hits the market. However, for now my D7000 continues to meet my needs.

Used D700 prices have been holding damn good considering not long ago I could have bought new for $2300 and can buy new now for $2500 so I would not pay over $2000 for a used camera a couple years old.

According to ebay...

So at $2050 you'd be getting a good deal, at $2200 you'd be overpaying.

I'd expect a drop of maybe $250 when the D800 is announced, and an additional drop when they start shipping.

eBay prices are ofen bloated as sellers try to recover eBay fee, since they also hav to pay Paypal fee in addition to eBay fee.

Price of cameras will go way down. If you want $2000 for your D700, you should probably sell it sooner.

What's the shutter life on D700s - 150,000? If so, you still have nearly half the life left before having to replace the shutter.

$1600 is probably the lowest price you can get it at right now. They range from $1850 to $2100 these days, but that's for D700s with < 50,000 actuations.
