The reason I ask is I hate having the "P" taken out of me.......I can buy a Mac laptop battery for less doe$ than what the camera shop are quoting......
I can afford $136 for a battery from Nikon but i feel they are having a laugh with us?
Common sense would dictate its probably worth about $50 MAX?
D2 through D3x can use Nikon EL EN4 or EN EL4a batteries - EN4 batts are cheap as a back up and still give about 1k + shots
Check Amazon for the EN4a it should run about $70
I had an off brand battery grip fry 2 boards in my D700, it cost $500 to fix. The repair tech suggested that it was a bad idea to connect a powered, Non-Nikon item to a camera. So lenses should be safe, but batteries, flashes, grips could be trouble, according to him...
The reason the Nikon batteries are so expensive is that they have internal circuit breakers that prevent them from frying the camera like the post above. You get what you pay for.
For $109 that battery must have those "internal circuit breakers" made of solid gold. n That or NIkon is laughing its azz off about those stupid suckers paying over 25 bucks an ounce for some lithium and plastic.
Maybe D3's can only use specially shaped electrons produced by Nikon batteries? BTW, I am using non Nikon batteries in my D700 without any problems.

My 4 EN-EL4a batteries are over 4 yrs old and share duties with my D2Xs. All of them still
read (0) except the oldest just turned (1) We're talkin' over 100,000 clicks and peace of mind
they'll do the job every time out. Money well spent, especially if your livelihood depends on it.

I doubt Nikon is laughing much with the natural disasters they have weathered.
I have two batteries for the D3s (both Nikon) and that is only so I can shoot and charge at the same time. In a full day's shooting, I don't think I've ever used half a charge. They have to be able to go 2K shots or more.
Actually, I bought the second from B&H used.
If you get 5 years from a battery and pro rate the cost, why be a cheap azz?
