p.1 #1 · Mark IV Auto Changing RAW to JPEG

Maybe someone can help me.
In either changing the exposure, speed, or something during shooting, my setting is going from RAW only to other settings; sometimes small JPEG or other times both RAW and JPEG. Somehow I am the cause of this. Anyone know what may be doing that automatically?

Wierd. Sounds like a mild case of electronic brain damage. Have you used it in heavy rain or near salt spray without a raincoat?

On second thought, I may have hit the fucntion button and tunrd the wheel thinking i was doing an erase. That may be it.

I've shot literally thousands of shots with my 1DS3 and 1D4 and never had an issue with it changing image capture method (RAW vs. JPEG). On the other hand using something like a 7D or 60D one never knows what can happen.

i've accidentally hit it before...and changed it from raw to small jpg

There is a an function that has a button (top left) on the back that switchs between raw and raw+jpg. I would turn it off. I suspect this is your trouble. I would turn it off. raw+jpg reduces the burst ability and I find is confusing when processing - you sometimes grab the jpg instead of the raw.

The 7D has a [RAW/JPEG] button on the back (which doubles as the Direct Print button), but I didn't know any of the 1D-series bodies did.

I think you're right. [Func.] is right next to the trash button, and then all it takes is a turn of the Quick Control dial within a few seconds, and...
