p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · cheap wide angle microSLR for camera trap

Hello,

I have a camera trap that uses a Canon 400D and ef-s 10-22. The 12-18 mm range is really useful for me. I want to build a second trap and I don't want to shell out for another wide angle lens. I am intrigued by the possibility of using one of these baby SLR's. Not only do the seem to have cheaper wide angle options, but the small size would allow me to make a small trap that would be easier to mount in difficult places.

I was hoping you guys could help me with a few questions:

1. What's cheapest option for a kit with a 17 mm or wider lens--I was thinking the NEX-3 and 16/2.8.

2. How does the IQ of a NEX + 16/2.8 (or similar setup from another brand) compare to that of a entry level DSLR + kit 17-55 zoom @ 17. I am mainly concerned with sharpness at f/5.6 to f/11.

3. If models lack a hot shoe, is there a hack or work around to trigger slaves with synch cords?

Thanks in advance for any help.
