I have used my mix of isopropyl and distilled water in the past with pretty good success. It dries fairly quickly and leaves little in the way of streaks, a quick polish afterwards is all's that is needed.
thanks guys. a friend gave me a tamron 90/2.5 52B macro a while back and i thought it just had some weird blue hazing or fungus along with the oily blades. i finally got around to disassembling it though and the glass is perfect, just covered in oil on all of the elements in front of the aperture!
ROR to start with, then high quality acetone for the final touch (just make sure it does not contact paint around). If you think there may be fungus, use "Purosol Optical" instead of ROR and let it stay on the glass for few minutes (it will eat fungus with its ferment cocktail).

how do you apply the acetone? do you have to be quick to avoid coating damage?
Wipe, ror/iso as needed, repeat if necessary, skip the acetone. Even though acetone is a good degreaser, possibly the best, and leaves no residue I don't know if it could adversely affect coatings.
