Thanks for your response. My question has to do with the size and resolution properties. Are only jpegs allowed? Some of the pictures on the Nature forum seem larger than others, etc.

Usually we use "jpeg" or "jpg" extensions for web presentation. What other format do you have in mind?
You can upload up to 600kb per file. That is a huge file for the web. On your imaging software, you should resize your files to a max of 1000 pixels for your image's biggest dimension and compress it to about 70 or 80%.
