I have windows professional software (word, excel, power point etc.) that I've used in the XP environment. Can I use this software in Windows 7 (Pro) environment. It would be nice if I did not have to purchase again.

The vast majority of apps do work and MS Office does, provided you have appropriate licenses. You may have problems with some device drivers for older hardware.

As for Microsoft Office, it depends what version you're using. Office 2003 and newer run fine on Win7, however I believe that there are issues with Office XP on Win7.

There were issues with Office XP (2002) on XP IIRC. It was one of the shortest upgrade cycles ever.

Damn, I think mine is that version and I can't find the damn disc. Is there a way to tell from the install on my current computer, that way if it is that version, I can stop looking for it.

Chances are you'll run into issues, but if you can find the install CD, it's worth trying to install it and see what happens. Perhaps any issues it has may not affect you (not features you use).

most stuff does but I believe my old Office XP broke on 7 64bit though
you can download openoffice or something else
or make a dual boot, I do that, can run all old games fine, etc.

Last week I did a clean install of Window 7 Pro, 64bit. I then installed MS Office 2000 with no problems. Word and Excel both seem to be working fine. I didn't put either through any extensive testing, but everything I checked worked perfectly.
