p.1 #1 · Hawk a-hunting

I was treated to observing a hawk hunting pukeko (swamphen) on Thursday afternoon. The action was pretty far away (100m to 200m, x3 for feet). I grabbed my Canon 30D and 170-500mm Sigma as this combo gave me the most reach. Even so, I have had to crop to make them showable. sorry

Here is a sampler from the peak of this drama

Nice shot, and a great set on your website! Great narration, I was beginning to wonder if the poor hawk would ever get away!

Sure did! It was hauling it off to have a meal that was the challenge. The rest of the Pukekos were waging an active campaign against the hawk. The whole thing started about 4:10pm and went on until 4:55pm .. so a good 45 minutes.

John - glad you enjoyed the narration. It was awesome to watch this in real life as I had never seen something like it before.
