this topic has been beat to death, and honestly, whatever the successor to the D700 is it's well passed the stage of our suggestions having any bearing on what it may or may not be when it does surface, so you might as well just do what the rest of us do, go out and shoot with what you have and WHEN it surfaces decide if it meets your needs.
And on that note, I vote we start banning people for starting more D800 threads...who's with me?
So, been using the forum all of a couple of weeks, suppose that makes me a newbie. Didn't realise this topic had been done to death on here, so if this thread is a nuisance to you then I'm sorry for that. However, no one said you had to read it, comment on it, or indeed let it be a nuisance to you.
However, to those of you who aren't idiots and have commented constructively I thank you. To those of you who feel the need for pointless unhelpful comments perhaps just don't comment at all. There are lots of other threads on here to trouble your simple little minds and I'm sure you could think of clever remarks about unicorns and piss of the OP's of those threads instead.

hasn't been done to death, just no one really cares as we like our d3's and d700's so much.

I wouldn't say no one cares. I am sure lot's of us care. Myself, my D700 died a sad death at the beginning of the summer and I want to replace it, but it makes no sense to have spent money on jacked up prices if there is a newer and better camera on the horizon. In the mean time I have used my backup D7000, but it's not a D700, especially in Hi ISO long exposures.
Please understand, there are lots of circumstances out there where some of us who aren't rich, can't afford to spend money twice on a camera, and when we spend that kind of money, only want to spend it once... The D700 is an awesome and incredible camera... the best I ever owned, but if an upgrade is coming out, since my D700 is now deceased, myself... I want to hear about it...
See I run typically a generation or two behind the curve, poor college student. So I can't wait for the announcements so that everyone begins to dump there d700's and D3's. The market price has begin to dip significantly since the beginning of the summer, but with the price of D700's sitting about $1900 used and some D3's dipping as low $2600, as soon as the demand for both bodies dwindles due to the latest and greatest, the market price will dip even more. And I will be able to get a mid-mileage body used for a great price and finally be full frame.

unicorns unicorns unicorns...wasn't meant to piss you off. was just injecting a little humor. take it easy. and yes if i feel the need to add another pointless and unhelpful comment i certainly will.
Sorry, just having some fun. Vaporware as we call it in the programming world is all over the place. Nothing is real until it actually ships and one can purchase it. Hopefully Nikon is back on their feet and hardware junkies will get their next fix. For me, my D7000 will be used till it dies, I fear I might go first how ever.
