Like many of you I am desperate to get my hands on a D800 but it seems the wait will never end. I regularly trawl the web looking for rumours, updates and any news surrounding what will be an epic camera for sure. So far I have read that it will be 36mp, 18mp, and more recently I have read that it will be 16.3mp.
I have also now read that an 18mp D800 and a 36mp D900 will be announced together, but have also seen rumours that it will be an 18mp D800 and 36mp D4 pair that will be announced. My money is on the D800 + D4 combo.
I have recently heard that Nikon have been buying some substantial advertising space for Jan 2012 which would suggest a Jan 2012 announcement/launch but again this could be pure speculation and rumour!
So what do you guys think? What do you guys want? And when do you think it will happen?
Also not bothered anymore. Sold my D700 bought a D7000 for the extra reach and I'm happy as can be. To me a new lens or two are much more important than a new body.
I was stoked about going to a D700 or D800 from a D90 but I've decided to forgo going FF and sell my D90 and 70-300Vr and pick up a D7000 along with a 70-200 VR I and a TC-17. That's happening around tax time so I've lost interest in the D700 and the D800 hype.
Runamuck, I will continue to get out and shoot with what I have, but thanks a bundle for the great advice. Your encouragement means a lot.
Anyone else have any useful remarks about what they would like in a D700 successor? Would you go with a massive resolution or keep the res lower with high ISO capability? The D700 can't really be faulted so what could Nikon possibly introduce to make it a worthy upgrade?

I do not think about it, I wish I had more time to devote to photography.
I do not want anything, my D700 is more than I need and will last me for quite a while
I have no idea when it will happen and neither does anyone who is not working at Nikon.

this topic has been beat to death, and honestly, whatever the successor to the D700 is it's well passed the stage of our suggestions having any bearing on what it may or may not be when it does surface, so you might as well just do what the rest of us do, go out and shoot with what you have and WHEN it surfaces decide if it meets your needs.
And on that note, I vote we start banning people for starting more D800 threads...who's with me?

My personal opinion is that we'll see something by PMA - and that's only a month or so off. I'll be out there, so I'll let you know if it's any good
There will be an announcement a day or two before the January 10-13 Los Vegas show.
Could be a D400, D800, D4 or any combination will be shown.
Do you read NikonRumors ct8282? I don't think anyone here is going to have 'better' rumors than that site. Best to just check there and wait for a real announcement because no one here really knows anything at this point.
