Priced anywhere from $1500 on up to $3500 depending on accessories include/condition. Final production of 2000 in 2002, offered in chrome or black. Just an awesome camera all around, though I don't have one personally. I've been checking out rangefinders recently, and this one seems to be a nice catch. $$$
I really wish they would put one back out, but there is no way they will, especially not with the debut of the 1 system.
I do recall reading a post (don't recall if it was at FM) of someone finding an old mint S1 for only $50 in excellent condition. I'm certainly jealous.
I owned one briefly. The lens is one of the best 50's out there--nearly as nice as the 50 lux asph, at about 1/5th the cost. I wish they put meters in these newer Nikon rangefinders. Something like the Zeiss Ikon or Leica M7.
My brother had a couple of the originals and a set of lenses. I always liked using them, but never as much as I liked my two Leica M3s. On the S3, both changing lenses and film offer a set of challenges that aren't really helpful to the task. They sure look great, though, and I got myself a Kiev 4 to calm that particular itch.
