Check out "Light, Science and Magic" by Fil Hunter et al. for a good start. Really informative.
If you shoot with strobes I really like "Speedlighter's Handbook" by Sly Arena. It is Canon based but excellent for those of us trying to learn good strobe technique.
To be honest, the best info is online and usually free. Read lighting 101 on the strobist site and after that experiment yourself, look at examples with setups posted by others and reverse engineering shots you see in magazines/online. After a while you see almost everything is a variation of standard ideas and setups.
The best info are ones with lots setups and explanations rather than how-to books. Mcnally's books like hotshoe diaries are good, lightenupandshoot ebook is also good if you are starting.
