p.1 #1 · Gitzo G126 or G1028 (or other good hiking tripod)
I'm looking at a hiking tripod for a Sony NEX system with rangefinder lenses (very light). I've narrowed it down to an old G126 (15" closed, 10lbs rating, but 3lbs) or a G1028 (17.7" closed, 6.6lbs rating, 1.7lbs).
Any experience with either of these? I know I can get a Manfrotto CF for $120 (the 732CY), but level locks always catch on things, and lately their build quality has been subpar.

I have the G1126MKII which is the successor of the G126. Mine is slightly longer when closed with single piece column but otherwise the same. It is a very solid tripod with excellent vibration dampening for its size, and suppress the old bigger metal Manfrotto 190. It can handle rangefinder size gears w/o problem at all. The downside is that it feels rather dense for its size, and is probably no match to the Gitzo carbons which is lighter but costs many times more.

I'm looking again at the Manfrotto 732cy. The $120 price is tempting. Either that or I'll go with the G126. The only stress I may put on it is a nodal ninja pano head (1.1lbs).
