I can recall at least one incidence when a post from this OP contained essentially only a link to a product from the online retail site run by his empolyer. The post was later removed, after I sent a notice to Fred Miranda about it. So both Fred Miranda and the OP himself are familiar with what is going on.
The person that have the Really Big Cameras shop did the same thing a lot in the Gear Forum. In the end Fred M banned him. But he didn't have a big shop like B&H with ads here

To me the link and video were excellent timing for the Holiday Season.

If honest I never see either of them participate in any discussion here. only the ones that involves their shops, or anything they have sold

Generally speaking it's only ones that involve their respective businesses. I believe that's their job spec.
However, I've seen a few times where Henry has offered sound photographic advice to people seeking it out. He and I have our differences, but I'm sure our differences are far outweighed by the help he's given others here.

I think you miss the point of what bothers some about Mr. Posner of B&H starting a thread that tells us what a good deed B&H did. It isn't the deed that bothers some. It's the use of the good deed to promote B&H's business in what is supposed to be a non-commercial forum. If all B&H was interested in was doing a good deed there would have been no reason for Mr. Posner to brag about it by starting this thread. This is, incidentally, the second place I've seen this video and the mention of B&H replacing the camera. Believe me, Mr. Posner is milking this for all it's worth.

Wow...so much negativity here, last I saw it was Fred's job to moderate this forum. I really don't think that B&H needs a marketing ploy here on FM. They have always been one of the top recommended retailers from members here for years. Plus Henry has stepped in many times over the years to correct any problems with members and their dealings with B&H. I don't think those instances were marketing ploys.
As the saying goes..."no good deed goes unpunished".
FM isn't the only place this video is circulating. No need to feel special.
The fact that he has stepped in many times over the years, just tells me he does what he is paid to do. Control people's view of B&H. Being present in forums is important when it comes to social marketing.
Posting the video here was a bad move. It brought attention to the fact that it's viral marketing. He should at least have used a different account, not affiliated to B&H in any way.

When I first saw the video, it looked to me like the guy did it intentionally... and then "coincidentally" gets a new camera for free...? Give me a break.

Henry all negativity aside, an Acura tl is a fine car. Hope it's the next to newest and not the newest. They ruined the look of that car. The new grill is like...wtf were they thinking.
Personally I think the car's designers were channeling the ghost of Jimmy Durante with that front end. :-)
I believe the 2012 version is an improvement.

I was born not far down the coast from Cannon Beach (Well, "not far" considering how long the Washington/Oregon/California coastline is), and have spent a lot of time there and elsewhere on the Pacific beaches over the last five decades. I've seen a lot of people surprised by sneaker waves after they watched many others only come in just so far and no further.
Sadly, some visitors have died when they were washed out to sea while beachcombing.
I doubt he saw that wave coming and then strategically placed his camera right where it would be assured of getting hit. I think the guy got caught by surprise, and then posted the video for others to see, as is common on YouTube these days. I think the coincidence of a Canon being wrecked at Cannon Beach made this video stand out, and that's why it is so notable.
Did B&H see it as an opportunity for self-promotion? Probably. That doesn't seem too terrible a thing to me.

Whats the big deal guys? It wasn't his stupidity that got him a new camera, it was how he handled it. It is up to B&H if they want to replace the camera on their own nickle.
So Henry posts the link - what do it matter. He is just stating their good deed. No harm or fowl.
I know personally many people who have lost camera's in similar ways. No one posted such a video I know of. They just whined and complained about it. Kind of like some people's reaction on this thread...

I'm with Robert on this one.
Look, I don't hold anything against B&H or any reputable online retailer. I also appreciate that it was intended as an act of generosity to replace the camera for free, and that's great for the buyer. But it also leaves a bad taste in my mouth to know that just because someone's mistake goes viral, that they somehow are compensated for it, whereas I *know* if I do something equally stupid, I can surely expect to have to pay dearly for my mistake. And that seems fundamentally unfair to me.
The next time you damage something you bought from B&H, why don't you try calling them up and asking for a free replacement? Maybe if you blog about it and post some video footage, it might go viral and they'll do you a solid. Or maybe they won't and you're just shit out of luck. The whole point is that this kind of altruism might seem like a nice thing to do, but it opens up a can of worms, because it was strictly through the buyer's own stupidity that he damaged his gear. It wasn't just an "accident." It wasn't something he could not control. And he should have had insurance. Instead he made a video about it and in return he was rewarded for being stupid.

He didn't ask for a replacement; he didn't deserve a replacement; he didn't earn a replacement.
IT WAS A GIFT.
That's my point. Then why did he get one? Why shouldn't someone else who goes through a similar accident get one? Are you always happy for someone who receives a gift they not only do not deserve, but in fact caused the loss they experienced in the first place?

So i guess Nikon, Canon, Sigma et all...should give EVERYONE a lens and camera because they give it to a select few to test and use and promote...and they do it for FREE geebuz people...someone did a good deed...be happy.

pretty funny, I've been to Cannon beach and the beach slope is very shallow and the high and low tide lines are pretty far away from each other
could have gotten bonus points if the video had included one of the many killer whales that hang out in that part of the world (have seen them pretty close to the shore just south of there)
loggers toss logs into the Columbia and then pick them up downstream but they miss some and these turn up on the beaches
