p.2 #1 · 24L II on APSH (1D4 / 1D3)

I can't speak for the 24L MKII, but I love the 24L's perspective on my 1DIV. I think it is actually my favorite lens on 1.3

p.2 #2 · 24L II on APSH (1D4 / 1D3)

thanks for the interesting examples.
i had the 5D2 and sold it - for the 1D4. so i can compare somehow.
i find the difference in the high iso area is not so extreme.
5D2 is better, but i prefer the IQ of the 1D4. of course, it's better to avoid everything above iso3200 IMO.

your statement is important for me.
i own and owned quite a lot of good lenses, but there are a few that make it always.
the 50L and 135L are one of those, and i am looking for a versatile fast WA prime on APSH in that league.

studied the 24L, 35L, 21+25 distagon, 24 TSE and it seems there is probably no way around the 24L for what i do.

sorry, i mixed the posts just before.
thanks for your examples.
as i said, the difference at high iso between 5D2 and 1D4 is not so extreme IMO.
i owned the 5D2 and sold it because of my insatisfaction in certain areas.

the 1D3 and 1D4 are excellent (and IMO) unbeatable up to iso1600.
really like the IQ.

i am a bokeh-freak, thats why i want to see the bokeh of the 24L on a 1D3 or 1D4.
of course it depends a lot on the environment (light, backround etc) the photo is taken.

FF + 35L is very interesting.
the day a 5D3 with the 1Dx sensor is appearing, together with a 35L II, i might start to question the 1D4-24L combo.

so i dont hope that a super great new 35L II will appear

I think you answered your own question right there. The bokeh of the 24L is lovely with a muted background, but not as nice with a busy one in harsh light.

That sucks your 35L underperformed on your 1DIII at close distances. Mine, however, is a rockstar, especially near mfd.

If you liked the AOV it provided on APS-H I'd try another copy if I were you...

no doubt that the 35L and 50L deliver smooth bokeh.
just wondering about the 24.
you describe what i expect.

anyway, i am not 100% satisfied with the 2470 @24mm wide open, when it comes to indoor events.

thanks for these images. of course i like the 35 AOV (44mm on the 1D3).
nice pictures. i still find, this 1D3 is a outstanding camera for portraits.
sure that i wont get the current 35L. if there is a mark II, i'd reflect.
a lot

And that's fine, as long as you understand you will not receive the same quality bokeh and relative lack of distortion at close focusing distances with the 24 as you would the the 35. Either way, good luck with your decision

This is exactly why I tried to avoid using 5dii with Ultra fast glasses.
Looking at the pic, my guess is that you used the center af point for it, and focused on the face. Needless to say, the framing is not ideal in this case. If you were to use outer AF points in this low light condition, most likely it would result in out of focus pics due to the 'excellent' af system of the 5dii

So in the end, would it still beat the mkiv + 24L? Not really imho
