Well December is fast approaching.
Every year for a while now i've been producing calendars as gifts for family and friends, and part of the process is looking back over the last 12 months to select which photos to use for next years calendar. The last few years for me has seen a pretty much 100% hit rate for alt lens photo's for my calendars ;-)
So I thought we may be able to have an alt calendar collection here.
Show some of your photo's from the past 12 months, which month the photo was taken and why that month was special for photography.
I'll kick off with January, personally I love the winter months for a few reasons, winter light is not too harsh and can be good in photo's all through the day and the most obvious reason - for sunrise shots I don't have to get out of bed in the middle of the night
My January photo here is the Old Royal Naval Museum in London taken with ZE35/5D
A beautiful shot John! Although I lived in Surrey before migrating to Australia some 20 years ago, It took a brief trip to London in 2010 before we visited Greenwich!
Have you used a graduated filter in this picture, or is it totally natural light?
I have only recently started using alt. lenses, but will see what I can produce!
Great idea for a thread John - and a great shot I'll join in and post a couple of shots from each month - once a day.
January 2010 - I was in Egypt which was an interesting experience. There are four major themes that I associate with Egypt - ancient monuments, Islamic culture, scuba diving and the desert.
^^No need for that the pop you see is a combination of great lighting coming at a low angle with the snow acting as a reflector and the B&W conversion. The 35 Lux ASPH is a great lens but in this case you would have gotten a similar image with any high quality 35mm.
April
April in Sweden is usually the month you get bitterly disappointed over the spring not coming.
Thanks Goose? It's a swan!! And they're dangerous - they are bad tempered and can easily break your arm if they swing at you with one of those wings. I've got an even more daring shot, taken with a 35mm not far from MFD:
Usually if a photographer tries this he find himself knocked down into the water. Fortunately for me this was a rather special period when winter turned to spring basically overnight. So for a couple of weeks swans and ducks were very hungry as the underwater vegetation had not started to grow properly and they behaved in a much more friendly and civilized way than they usually do.
