Just wondering if anybody's noticed how odd the search function on the forum acts.
For instance, searches in certain forums which I'd expect to result in quite a few hits, come up with hardly any.
Another example - the post processing and printing forum. One of the most recently posted threads is 'Epson 3880 paper'. Yet if I search 'Epson', this thread doesn't come up at all.
So, what's the trick with this site's search engine?
Don't know, but I tried your example and you are correct it does not feature in search results. Also tried 3880 and Paper in 2 other searches. Both failed to list that thread.
Hi guys,
The thread: "Epson 3880 Paper" is 11 months old. Therefore you need to specify on the search "time" field either "Anytime" or "Past year".
If you choose "Past year", on that board for the word: "Epson" for example, the thread will be 11 months old and located on the second page of the search query.
Best,
Fred
Thanks Fred.
I can't speak for the OP but when I tried my search I used the 'topic search' function from within the board rather than the Full search found by clicking search At the top of the page.
There is no specified time period for topic search but I guess thinking about it it must have a set time otherwise the results would be large.
I wonder as the search the op was talking about and the search I did (as a test) was aimed to find a thread that had a very recent reply (it was currently on the 1st page) that the last replied date should be considered in the date parameters of 'topic search' rather than when the thread was started
Just a suggestion. Now I know more I will use the full search if the board topic search does not find something I'm looking for.
Hi Ian,
Even if you use the quick "topic search", instead of the "full search", the thread ""Epson 3880 Paper" will be there on page 2.
The "topic search" queries recent threads up to 1 year. Both search engines display threads based on the original date the thread was started.
