I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed recently, but is anyone else sick of seeing everyone holding instructional "workshops"? I just recently saw an ad for a local photographer's "advanced" workshop which covered shutter speed and aperture settings... for $150
Has anyone else seen workshops held by photographers with little admirable work?
If you can get the participants it's a good gig. Heck I took a posing and natural lighting course down here in the Harrisburg area a few years ago, and ended up teaching the Canon people how to use their cameras, and the instructor worked with the Nikon people.

The two are not necessarily related. Some of the worst workshops I've know are by very well known photographers that are not the best teachers. OTOH, some lesser-known photographers are really excellent teachers. The work they show is good, though not necessarily the greatest.
I wouldn't worry about barely qualified instructors or teachers with questionable skills conducting workshops. Sometimes even poor workshops are just right for some. Most workshop participants end up learning at least a few things they didn't know before they went. It's also a good place to make contacts.
