I have 2 Knock-off MB-D10 grips for the D700/D300. I planned on using them to make a wireless transmitter for my D700, but have scrapped the idea. I tested them once and they work fine, 1 has a loose tripod mount which causes it to go into the grip. If you use a L-bracket or quick release plate and you will not have any issues.
These are the grips you see on Ebay with the Nikon box and are like new.
