I have a Hoya Polarizer, 77 mm But it does not say what model exactly All it says on the filter is HOYA 77mm pl-cir philippines But it came apart! The part that screws into the lens got stuck, and when I tried unscrewing it.. it separated. Is this a known problem with Hoya? What do you recommend for a good Polarizing filter for my 77mm lenses.. This particular problem and Hoya's refusal to acknowledge it as a design flaw and deal with it accordingly is why I will never buy Hoya/Kenko/Tokina again, despite the superb optical quality of some of their products. There are a number of quality CPL alternatives for around $100 used - the Nikon CPL, B+W MRC (not Kaesserman), Marumi. They are not available at these prices every day, but with a bit of patience you can get them. The absolute rock bottom prices for new filters are at maxsaver.net, don't let the HK location and cheesy website scare you off, they are legit with excellent service. If you have a receipt for the Hoya and are within 1 year of purchase and have bought from an authorized dealer they will fix the problem for free... until it happens again. Oct 12, 2011 at 04:34 PM

I just have to buy right the first time as I do not get money often.. Saving for a 300.00 filter is not a problem.. I can do that if need be.. but I have to know from the pros what is been tested and is really a good choice. I always, ALWAYS post on forums and take the advice of people when buying items... i.e, my 24-70, my 70-200...my 50mm.. All I bought only after posting and asking questions. All have been good choices to this day. If anyone can tell me what they think is the best polarizer, model, name, all I need to save up and get one.. I will do that. I have a single coated B+W as well as the Kaeseman and can't tell the difference, though admittedly, I've done no formal testing between them. I have one that has come apart on me a half a dozen times. It's not too bad to put back together. Of course the times it separates are never good for fixing the filter. I've moved on to a B+W.
