Upload & Sell: Off
p.1 #1 · 1st Time Post

Hi All,

I have been lurking here for years and have finally decided to post something. I have been "dabbling" in photography for about 20 years, off on on. I really enjoy the outdoors and all the great work here on FM. I am eager to learn and am open to all CandC. OK, lets be honest, I'm open to "most" CC.

Hope the upload works. Thanks in advance.

Bill

Too small to see well. Try posting at 800 pixels for the long dimension.

Thanks, AuntiPode. I was in a National Park with a $50 fine if I stepped off the trail, so comp was a challenge. I could barely find any that were facing up or tall enough to get under and that leaf litter was everywhere. I have that image in RAW as well, but used the JPG and PSE to tweak it some. Thanks for your suggestions and critique, I'll keep learning.

Welcome from a former lurker! (Weren't we all?)
Nothing to add, except that the reworks are nicely evolving and well done.
Hope to see more soon.
Oh, and do your processing on the RAW, not the jpeg. More latitude to make adjustments and totally worth your time to get comfortable with RAW files and the enormous potential to stylize and "fix" an image to your own satisfaction.
We will help!

Scott

Thanks, Jo. In the picture of mine in your post, does that show what you mentioned for blurring and darkening of the green leaves.

Thanks, Scott. I will post a photo from RAW later. Going to work on some from last weekend, tonight.

All, ID of flower is incorrect, not a Trillium, but an Avalanche Lily taken on Mt. Rainier

Yes, my copy does have the adjustments mentioned, I told you they were very subtle, mostly the leaf right behind the top white petal has been darkened every so slightly, and the white petals have been brightened very slightly.

Scott is SO right when he says shoot in raw. I shot jpeg for about 3-4 months while I was learning my camera, then switched to raw for everything. You really do have so much more leeway to edit your photos, and bring back shadows or highlights that might not be available in a jpeg.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing more!

Jo

What is it with dew that makes flowers so much more appealing? Very nice capture Bill and do like the resulting edits too.

Hope you don't mind one more play; transparent PNG background.

Also created this seamless texture and used it for the flower sphere below.

Lyle, i like what you did in the first post with highlighting more of the pine bark ans especially the stamen highlight. Nice work in improving a medicore comp.

Really like the flower sphere! What did you use?

Best,
Bill

Done in GIMP but for the smaller tile for the back of sphere, I used Simple's Diamond filter. I then darkened the small tile and merged big and small tiles together and ran a GIMP filter called Mathmap (Mathmap>Distort>Sphere). Glad you liked the result. Did a few more since I first did yours including the one that I posted here; see what your flower did to me. lol
