We seem to have some friendly competition in the macro forum, as to who can get the best macro shots of a particular species. so I will implement the new Macro Wars .
RULES. only one , NO USE OF DEDICATED MACRO LENS---ONLY CONVENTIONAL LENS WITH TUBES,CLOSEUP LENS, EXTENDERS OR REV. MOUNTED. IF Croped post before and after shot. this is all for learning .
POST EXIF DATA, This can be a great learning tool for the newbies, and oldies as well, I can see lot of experimenting going on in these war games.
POST AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT.
It's has come to my attention that POLAND has declared WAR here at FM, So let the onslaught begin.
1ST MACRO WORLD WAR IS ( HELICOPTER WARS BY EOSER ( damsel fly)

Ok... I won't dare to compete with the images above, those are spectacular. I will still add an image for your review and critique. This is not a crop, the only adjustments in PS were contrast and some sharpening. Shot hand held with a 10D and Sigma 70-300mm (crappy!) lens. ISO 800, f/5.6, 1/750sec.
Ok, Tom, I got no damsel shot, but I got your friend to say hello.
This one is uncropped, only resized for the web.
I posted this in Wildlife forum before.

Why dedicated macro lens cannot be use? is it not the same principle with using tubes or reversed lens? is it not macro lens is a lens with built-in tubes? also the dedicated macro lens (eg. canon 100mm macro USM, sigma 105mm macro EX, etc) will goes only to 1:1 magnification? the reversed lens will goes beyond that? So, others that don't have tubes, closeup filters, or reversed lens cannot join this party
The only "natures helicopter" I have ever caught was last summer and the poor guy was about on his last legs. CP4500 has a hard time with these guys. They have to cooperate or be nearly dead to catch them. He's not a damsel. He's a dragon. But, the best I got so far. Still looking and trying.
No added lens. I shot this by sticking the camera in his face! Like I said, they gotta be cooperative or near dead! I think he was both.

I was still learning the camera at the time, so everything that could be on auto was, and I can't remember if I had it on Aperture priority or Speed priority. Since I'm not on my own computer, I can't go to the original file to check on that. This info was uploaded with the photo to pbase. I'll edit later on when I get back home.
Wow nice macro... the hair in the body and legs are so visible.. maybe you right, it is very cooperative or nearly dead haha.. since so far what i experience, the dragon is quite skittis... especially the red one...
