Had been shooting gators before dawn, and then headed into wide open prairie country in time for sunrise.
This type of Marsh is known as Marl (lime rich mud or mudstone), Prairie. It stretches for miles as do the wetter Everglades prairies, and although this has a bleak appearance it supports many varieties of grass along with a short version of sawgrass.
Also, several types of trees grow in hammocks on elevated areas formed by outcroppings of limestone.
Nice capture! The colors are exquisite, and I love the silhouetted palms and the mist, very dramatic! I do seem to notice some lgihtness right at the boundary of the far trees and the horizon - is this perhaps an HDR shot? I see this sometimes when I am doing HDR stuff myself. Very subtle though, not really a big issue IMHO. All in all a wonderful wall hanger type of shot!

I like to hit as many national parks as I can for photo ops, and Everglades is now on my list for sure!
