I have an opportunity with a new magazine to shoot a Pro soccer match this weekend. I have not shot this type of venue. I having been shooting NASCAR and the like for many years, this is a new adventure. For long glass I have a 70-200 2.8 & a 400 4.0. The match is late afternoon, not been to the venue, won't see it till I get there. Please advise
Thank you Fish on, that was very informative. I wish my Mrk2 had good high ISO, but anything over 800 is junk. The newer models have a wonderful high ISO as well as a pricey. A 300 2.8 is still on my dream list along with a new body.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on that one. I, along with thousands of sports shooters around the world who shoot at night or in dim arenas, frequently use ISO settings greater than 800 on a mark 2 and get excellent results! Heck, even on a 1D classic you can still get good stuff at 1600...
As well, you have the advantage of modern noise reduction in the newer versions of photoshop, and if you still have issues, then you can always give noise ninja a try...
I'll check out Noise Ninja. I have been shooting with the Mrk2 and had nothing but problems since I got nearly 5 years ago. The noise is terrible. I try to stay as low as possible. When desperate and I know there will be no enlarging I use higher, but really prefer not to due to the poor quality of the images even with RAW. Then again this body was in at CPS 5 times last year for many issues, and a few times the year before. It's truely been a problematic body, had the opportunity to get the MRK3 but was warned off by a getty guy...

-is your firmware the latest version?
-what are you using for RAW edits?
-are you using in camera noise reduction?
-what is your JPEG quality set to for JPEG shooting? I usually shoot at 8
-the 1D2 tends to underexpose when it does miss... if you can't be exact, better to be over by 1/3 stop since underexposing generates a lot more noise...
