Not sure if I'd prefer these toned versions over a straight B&W, but both of these are excellent shots.
My preference is the second one because of the DOF and balance of the different elements, as well as the intrinsic benefits of three people making a triangle.

i think the toning is hurting these quite a lot, its making a warm scene look very cold.

That aside i agree with charlie, the 2nd shot is nicely composed with foreground and background interest.

Hey Ootsy,

As the others said adding a blue tint to it gives it a "cold" feeling... something I don't feel that is appropriate for this shot. For #1 it feels a little too spread out, Id crop a little off the right. And I am digging #2.
