p.1 #1 · camera strap question

I have always used the Nikon Straps, never really gave it much thought. Today I was thinking (if you can call it that) how bout a strap that could possibly be more comfortable? Especially when lugging more than one camera?

I have looked at the op/tech and the other one like it (what was it called?) anyway they were both very similar. Have you tried any other brand/type of shoulder strap and what did you think? Do you like it?

Not much to spend and I will probably try one anyway but wanted to see if there were any others I should consider other than these two. I like the idea of the neoprene but think it might be kinda hot feeling in the summer.

I have the Lowepro Voyager C camera strap and it suits me fine. $25. It is a quick release system so while I prefer it not have to this feature it's never released by accident.

If you win the lottery check these out...

I like my Op/tech pro strap, it makes your camera weight less and in Summer sweat is absorbed by strap and evaporated at the outside, you never feel a wet spot with this one.

I've found the neoprene straps are a lot cooler feeling than the rubber grippy straps. They do absorb your sweat though, which is kind of gross in the summer. My OpTech's are weathering well.

I absolutely hate the Up Strap. It irritates my neck.

I've got an old weaved cotton strap on my AE-1, it was obviously made in the 70's. It's about and inch and a half wide and not backed with any rubbery or leathery material like most modern straps. It's very comfortable on your neck, but it slips right off your shoulder.

That's because the UpStrap is meant to be used over the shoulder and not around your neck. I use one and love it and wouldn't use anything else. I can hang the camera over my shoulder and never need to worry about it slipping. It holds the D2H, SB600 and a 17-35 near the edge of my shoulder and I don't even have the "hunch" to kind of keep it there.

Yes, if I put it around my neck it irritates me and is uncomfortable but I never hang the camera around my neck, too much weight and too uncomfortable regardless of the strap.

Check this sucker out...very cool. Put an A.S. clamp on the end of mine and attach to the L bracket.
Bigger glass, attach to the tripod foot. Slick!

You're right, it's not meant for a persons neck, but lots of people wear them that way. The original OP was wanting to carry more than one camera body anyways and for 90% of people that means one on the neck and one on the shoulder.

I have met a few photographers who's necks aren't bothered by them.... leather necks

+1 but you can make your own for a lot less money. I made one for myself from scraps around the house.

I have used Up-Straps for years and love them...although I have never made a practice of hanging my camera around my neck...it seems like such a bad idea.

Black Rapid makes a very interesting strap and I find it comfortable. The strap also keeps the camera out of the way and yet ready to use. It is worth watching the video.

i use the op/tech as well and it makes the D300+MB-D10+17-55 feel lighter than it really is.

Anybody have a link to a good handgrip? I have a cheapo one for my D40 and I'd like a sturdy one for my bigger bodies. (D300)

How does the Blackrapid work if you keep an L bracket on your camera at all time ?

Great, you can thread it into the bottom OR my choice is mount a clamp to the R-strap
and you can fasten to either the side or the bottom of your L bracket. Also handy if you want
to mount to the foot of a lens so equipped.

trenchmonkey,

Has anybody used the Y strap? i came across this and it looks neat.
