p.1 #1 · The king is back

but I'm sorry to say its not Elvis

I had this fella visiting the garden yesterday, and followed him around the flowers with my 500. Handheld with shutter speeds between 1/100 - 200

Hey there, neat set - we need more bugs on this site!!! Love the colors in the first one, along with the perfect definition of wing veins and patterning. I like the in-and-out DOF in #3, the comical verticality of #4, and the OOF fly in the BG of #5. What lens was this Glad to see you posting again!!!

Would have been better with a croc or two dining on the BFs but pretty nice work, Gero old man

I hope you are resting well now Chasing butterflies with a 500 doesn't seem like an easy task, however I am sure enjoying your efforts Some very nice comps and colors, #7 seems so light and delicate, neat shot as well as the vert shot with wings folded tight.

Gene,

Anyone shooting butterflies on a fall-blooming sedum will appreciate these. Count me one. The first one is a little light on monarch orange, all the others are great, wish I had done so well today. I missed every single monarch I had a shot at - great work, and as Karl said, shooting butterflies with a 500 is not a task for girly-men -

Hi, Gero. Nice to see you posting again. You did a very good job shooting butterflies with the 500 handheld and getting such nice and focused images. 6 and 8 are my favorites.

Wonderful shots Gero, especially totin' the 500 around and shootin' at 1/100! Nice to see you post a few.

Hey guys,
its good to be back. Been very busy and have not had any time to shoot this summer. Thanks for the nice comments.

Sue, I used the 500 for these.

Ken, the croc was busy eating the neighbor's dogs - far more meat and tastier than a butterfly

Karl, it was exhausting. Trying to follow a butterfly in the viewfinder on a windy day left me quite dizzy

David, Socrate, Ant, Bean and Doug, thanks for the comments.

there is more to come - I'm shooting with a vengeance
