ridiculously over priced plug-in anyway. With a little practice everything can be done in Photoshop , ACR and Light-room just as fast. Why should it cost almost as much as Lightroom.....look at what is in Light-room and what can be done with it. More then Adobe Elements....much more can even be done with Elements, More the CS5 update.....and people complain about the price of Photoshop. Would be nice to mess with if it was a reasonable price.....but I can do much the same without it......so just a rich mans toy......

I have the Silver Efex Pro version 1 and a few other of nik's plugins. And I really like them. But why do you charge people from different countries very different prices when downloading the software from your website And I'm not talking about any VAT or tax. Especially when you don't even charge many of them in their own currency !!!
Adobe do exactly the same thing, and the bottom line seems to be: "because they can". With Adobe, it's 50-100 per cent more for downloading off the same servers, simply because of geographical considerations, as if it costs more to send it further.
Hi, I've never posted here before but have visited from time to time.
I too found SEfex2 slow but no crashes on either my MacBook Pro or Mac Mini, and I'm good with the requirements.
I came across a temporary way of speeding it up. Try closing the loop and histogram box. It worked really well on the MacBook Pro and made a good improvement on the Mac Mini. Worked for me. Hope this is helpful. It will be intersesting if this works for others.
I upgraded to the new Pro 2 ver. for Lightroom and it was real slow to start with but after speaking with tech service Friday I now have this problem resolved and it is working great.
I have a Vista OS.
I think it is a very good upgrade with all the new features that have already been posted on the forum and many more.

If you don't mind, would you please kind enough and share what type of changes were made to improve the speed performance ?
i upgraded last week and am a bit annoyed at its slowness. i haven't yet found a need for the new features. at least it remembers the last preset you used. it was annoying that V1 never did.

I agree a little bit. But NIK is a lot worse than Adobe. At least with Adobe I get a Swedish website where I pay in my own currency. I also get the software in Swedish language if I like that. I can phone them in Sweden and get support with Swedish speaking people and so on. With NIK I get nothing except that they like me to pay 30-50% more
Thanks again for all the input, folks. I have most assuredly passed this entire thread to our execs who will take your feedback under consideration. There are some good insights into how pricing and language support are viewed around the world which is useful to understand.
Product management and the engineering team are also tracking and investigating issues such as those reported on this thread and others. The hope is to determine the causes as quickly as possible and respond accordingly with workarounds or an update to the software (should one be necessary). I will say that many thousands of people around the world are already using Silver Efex Pro 2 and seem to be very happy with both the performance on their computers and the new capabilities.
Lars - while we do not support the Swedish language, we do translate our products into German, Italian, French, Spanish, Japanese and even UK English. ;-) For a mid-sized, privately-held company, we do the best we can.
OK. The demo works on my 32bit desktop, but on my 64bit laptop it crashes in both 32bit and 64bit Photoshop CS4 and CS5. The error message is
Silver Efex Pro 2 crashed unexpectedly.
Created a crash info file (C:\users\***\appdata\localniksoftware\silver efex pro 2\crashinfo.txt).
Created a dump file (C:\users\***\appdata\local\nik software\silver efex pro 2\crashdump.dmp).
My system is a 32 bit Vista. What he told me to do is go in under settings under ENABLE GPU and uncheck the box.
Also he recomended I do a online upgrade on my graphics card.
Just buy turning off the ENABLE GPU my system is working just fine.
He also told me that increaseing my memory from 3.0 to 4.0 would help but I do not see the need at this time.

Our EU support team will want to see those crash logs. I recommend sending them an email to: [email protected] with some level of detail and attached the logs. Kevin
Price is turning me off too. Especially since the Collection (for LR), on sale, goes for less than 2.5x the cost of upgrading one plug-in. A $100 for plug-in upgrade is just hard for me to justify.
I have tried the demo. No problems with speed on Win 7. Borders is a nice feature.
