I got tired of waiting for someone to release a small, well built, manual focused, large sensor camera with a great viewfinder. So I got myself an M8, again.

Well, I got the G-bug, and got myself the 45/2 and the 90/2.8 of the Contax G series. Just waiting for them to arrive and do some testing to see if focusing at infinity will be easyer with these than with the ZM35/2 and the CV90/3.5. Probably not, but I could not resist and I admit I am a great fan of Zeiss

Congrats Martin, a fine looking M8. I'm sure you are going to put it to great use - looking forward to your shots
Yeah, and this time it seems to work as it should, which my former one didn't. Actually, I just bought a Summicron 28/2 ASPH for it today.

Is this to end the medium format era?
Oh no, but maybe the end of the D700 era.

Why the black tape?
Because I don't use Leica gear for bragging, so there's no idea having an ugly logo that screams "look at me, I'm rich!". I'm definitely not rich and don't want people to think I am. Status symbols are for people without skills.

Cool. It's a great lens - one of my all time favorites.

Haha, it's a nice theory, but it doesn't work in practice. If you want a status symbol a Leica is the worst possible choice as nobody except experienced photographers recognize it as such. And they'll know it's a Leica with or without the logo while your average person will think it's just an old film camera. In fact that's what Leica is playing at with the M9-P and MP series of cameras. They are more expensive than their regular counterparts and have the branding removed. It's a nod to those 'in the know' making it more elitist and more of a status symbol

OK, I see. Hmmm, I don't think I would ever think that deeply. I simply don't give much of a crap what others think. I thought maybe it was because you were shooting reflective surfaces and the red showed up too much or you were refinishing the skin or something like that. If I were to think that deeply I would probably take it the opposite way... like gold plate the sucker so everyone would think I'm the richest guy on the planet. Or change the ID ring on a cheap lens to make it look like some rare $50K model or something.
I love putting on airs (with people I don't know nor will likely get to know in the future..)... Not sure why, I feel plenty secure in who I am... I think I like the foolery of it...
Anyway, I think it looks cooler all black like that. Like a teen driving his all grey-primer hot-rod around town.

Just sent payment for Canon FL 50/1.4 & 55/1.2
Also getting an Industar 61L/D 53/2.8 for my future NEX 7.
Anyone know of an inexpensive WA RF lens?
I do know of the Industar 69, but it's half frame,
and if Canon or Fuji come out with a larger than APS-C sensor,
I'm going to want it to be useful on those too. TIA.

the cheapest wide angle RF lenses will be the voigtlanders, 12/5.6, 15/4.5, 21/4 and 25/4. There are some wide Canons and Nikons but the Voigtlanders are superior.

Thanks Ed, but I don't think of 55mm as a wide angle lens, nor is it a rangefinder lens.
But I am tempted to get your 55 conversion kit, for use on my 1DIII.
Thanks Thrice for the recommendations, I do intend to get a set of Canon RF's, but it seems that anything that's interesting to me is over a grand.
