Does purchasing multiple copies of the same lens represent the most extreme form of LBA? Apart from the Loxia 50, my favourite 50mm lens on the A7R II is the M-Hexanon 50mm F2, which works really well with the TAP. So when a mint copy came up at a reasonable price I couldn't resist. As a friend of mine used to say: "Buy a pair, keep a spare."

My dad owns about 9 Land Rover Discovery II's from the '01-'04 period. I commiserate with your wife haha.
Unless you're using the lens in a high demand professional shooting environment where you can't afford to be without it even briefly I don't think the "spare" argument is a winner, unfortunately :P
However, I'm 100% behind buying multiple copies to compare and only keeping whichever performs best. That's what you should claim you're doing.

Don't worry. I do have two copies of the M-Hexanon 50mm f2 as well. I find this completely acceptable.

I received my second CZ P50/1.4 C/Y as part of a kit, and am not willing to sell it. Also have three Leitz Summicron 35 M and three Elmar 90 M, although these are not entirely identical. I don't feel too guilty as these have gone up in value.

I'm the opposite. My 35-70 is great, my recently purchased 80-200 is in the shop, the front element stopped rotating with focus. Need to go bug him and see when I can get it back.

Pulled the trigger on a CY Zeiss 80-200/4.
Unfortunately the condition of my recently received copy of the CY 35-70/3.4 is not as great as expected - the lens tube is a bit wobbly.
I have sent it to a repair shop recommended by Zeiss as they do not service the CY lenses anymore (in Germany).

Schneider Angulon 210mm f/6.8. Decent condition. Not great. But it's one of the few wide angle of view lenses that can provide coverage for 11x14 film.

I have more than 2 good copies of at least one lens. It is very hard for me to ignore when I see one listed for a good price.
I'm not going to publicly admin how many copies I have though.

Thanks, everyone! It seems from most responses that my LBA is well within accepted tolerances. The fact that Olaf also has two copies of the M-Hexanon 50/2 was especially gratifying and completely vindicates my double purchase. In fact, I might follow Tim's advice and start looking for a third. I'd be astonished if Lee's dad doesn't hold the world record for owning the most '01-'04 Land Rover Discovery II's. I no longer have a wife who needs to be commiserated with (although my ex-wife was extraordinarily tolerant about my photo gear purchases). But other members might benefit from Lee's suggestion of masking the purchase of multiple copies by claiming to be looking for the best performer.

Well the Sinaron 150mm f5.6 digital lens arrived and is in E++ condition as advertised. However, and I should have confirmed this before purchase, though the lens has a black face Copal 0 shutter marked with -N0.0, the lens only has the 5 iris aperture blades. I had thought that all of these newer Copal 0 shutters with these markings had the newer 7 Iris aperture blades. My following lenses with the same Copal notation all have the 7 Iris aperture blades: 20+ year old SK 120mm f5.6 Makro Symmar HM, 10+ year old SK 120mm f5.6 Apo-Symmar L MC, recently purchased SK 90mm f4.5 Apo Digitar, and recently purchased Rodenstock 55mm f4.5 Apo-Sironar digital.
So maybe many of the black faced Copal 0 shutters that I have been seeing marked with -N0.0 are in fact only have the 5 Iris Aperture Blades. ...Show more →
I've been reading up on large format / view lenses, and I remembered this post when I happened to notice that both Schneider and Rodenstock describe the Copal #0 as having 5 blades on their websites. *shrug*

Hi Lee,
The later Copal 0 shutters were made with the 7 Iris aperture blades. I am not sure when they made the change but as I mentioned, I had my SK 120mm f5.6 Makro Symmar HM lens for around 23 years and it and other SK lenses that I have also have the later 7 Iris Aperture Blades.
