Not alternative, but someone was looking to trade FE 55/1.8 for a 35/1.4 Nokton, so now I'm a new owner of one of these magical automatically focusing lenses.
p.243 #13 · What is your most recent (alt) lens purchase?
Canon 300mm f2.8 FD.
This tops all ALT lens that I have. Focus ring is surprisingly light and smooth, makes it so easy to handhold and focus, for 10 minutes that it....... It is good sharp wide open and rendering very nicely comparing to my Canon 100-400L, which I traded with a local person for this beast, and made a friend along the way.
Deer chasing was fun, probably make a trip for eagle season with new toy.

Just sold a 200 2L and all of my Canon digital gear and picked up a gently used mid 1980s Leica Cron....
YY_ do you have an 85 1.2 Aspherical? I had one and still have a goldcoat 55 1.2 Aspherical.
300 2.8 is sweet indeed. I had the 200 2L for 8 years and sold it for about what i paid for it. The 300 F/? was a little long for what I shoot. The 200 was right on the edge. Also sold an 85L, 35L and 24L...

Yes, I do have the aspherical 85mm. It is go-with-me-everywhere lens, but too tight for indoor, so I got silver nose 55mm. At f1.8, Sony FE55 is sharper than Canon, but Canon has special rendering. Just need more time to learn behavior of silver nose
It's funny that all of us have different desire at various stage of our photography life. Many are staying with AF, others go back to legacy glass. My next lens would probably be 35L or Voiglander 35mm f1.2...
300mm f2.8 is fun lens for me, hopefully bring me back to casual wildlife. This is 300mm in action from yesterday
p.243 #16 · What is your most recent (alt) lens purchase?
I went all Leica M. I have had Leica MM and a 35 Summilux FLE for a little over 3 years. The Lux FLE is sharper at the corners then my 35L was in the center and then there's the way it renders. I have picked up a new M 262 (stripped down M-P/M240) and a gently used M-E and a 35 Zeiss Biogon 2.8 ZM and the mid 1980s 90mm f/2 Summicron and couldn't be happier. I had gotten so tired of all the automation, video, live view and I like the smaller less complicated cameras. The menus on DSLRs are insane. I like'm nice and simple. Even the ones on my Leicas are a bit much but a lot better than my Canons.

YY_ I had a 55 1.2 also. The 55 aspherical is a lot sharper than the regular 55 1.2. If you can find one the metal Nikon HN-20 hood fits the 85 1.2 Aspherical. Its a screw in metal hood since the 85 1.2 Aspherical didn't come with a hood and as you know didn't have mount like the later 85 1.2 FD which came with a hood.

Thanks to a fellow FMer, a new-old-stock Apo-Macro-Elmarit-R 2.8/100 arrived on my desk earlier today.
This Leica bug seems... communicable, and to also spread fast. I've grabbed the 28v2, 60, and 100 this year. Selling off the other gear to fund more L-R glass...
