SMC Pantax A 28/2.8 $10
FD 50/1.8 silver nose breech $20 w/FTb attached
I was hoping to find a wider than 28mm lens when checking out yard sales, but didn't any.

Look what just showed up at my door! A nice little Contax Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 85mm f/2.8 MMG [LNIB].
Nice! Is that one of the ones from ffordes.co.uk? I noticed they've recently had a whole pile of them in Mint- to literally new. Anyway, it's about time for someone to (re)start a Contax images thread (because alt lens prices aren't rising fast enough already ).

Nope. It's from Jack's in Muncie IN. It cost me slightly less than the [M-] one at ffordes, after removing the VAT, of course.
I forgot to include the lens leather bag in the photo I posted. Too bad, it's très chic. I wonder if it was designed by Porshe, as were the Contax 139Q and Zeiss Tessar 45/2.8.
Hmmm. Turns out, the lens bag was made in Japan. Talk about a time of transition for Zeiss. The original box and lens are both 'Made in Germany'.

I suspect that Zeiss management was willing to admit you could make a nice bag in Japan a bit longer ago than nice optics
Now that Cosina is making the Zeiss Z* optics, I'm hoping for a Leica/Samyang relaunch of the Leica R line

Just received a 35 Summicron R, first version today. Some quick tests reveal beautiful color and contrast but unfortunately, it can show some crazy, triangular bokeh in oof highlights. Not at all what I was expecting. It also does not appear to really get tack sharp except for the center, also somewhat disappointing. I guess it will be going back.
Does anyone have experience with the last version of the 35mm Summicron R with regard to bokeh and overall sharpness outside of the middle of the frame?

That seems consistent with my experience too, and with the MTF charts I've seen for the lens. The very center should be rather sharp from wide open, but the corners are poor, and remain so until f8-11+ (with the extreme corners always remaining a bit iffy). Leica's MTF chart for the lens shows the tangential 40lp/mm line falling to below 20% past 15mm even at f5.6. I like this lens for its rendering toward wider open (fits in well with the 'Cron 50mm and 90mm of the same era) and wonderful color (which remains rich despite the lower sharpness), but it's not what I'd choose if corner-to-corner resolution is compositionally important. It's a nice lens for, e.g., full body portraits, but my Zeiss glass comes out for landscapes.

I guess the big surprise for me was the poor bokeh which I was not expecting. The bokeh is very busy until closed down quite a bit and then you also have that horrible, triangular type bokeh in very bright, oof highlights, the result of some fairly severe aberrations I think.
