I was hoping it would be a little closer to the price of the 85mm, but I'm not really surprised. Tempted to just pull the trigger, I've been wanting a fast 35 for a long time now. Hard to do it until I see some more serious reviews.

Me too! I'd love to give this thing a try on my a900. I considered getting a ZF1 35/2 but I'm going to hold out for this.
Same here regarding the a900 but I'm thinking I would rather invest more in something that is built a littler better, will last longer and maintain it's resale value. The 85 was nice but it does have a very cheap mount - not stainless or brass but more like tin which is screwed into plastic!. That build quality likely means the internal materials used on both these lenses are pretty poor.

i think it's aluminum. but yeah, some soft metal. i'm more concerned about the size, and think i will just hold out for a nice copy of the c/y 35/1.4. i really wish sony would hurry up and release a FF camera with liveview, i'm not a particular fan of canon cameras for my old lenses.
The Samyang looks very good in comparison to the 35L. Impressive that it shows less CA. Also noted was that the build quality was a step above the Samyang 85 though clearly not at the level of Voigtlander or Zeiss. I would be curious to hear from those who get this lens about their impression of build quality, particularly if the mount appears to be mor robust than the Samyang 85 (likely more important with this lens as it has some weight to it).
The 35L also look sharper dont you think (even on these small webimages)? Perhaps no big surprise, but since Samyang 85 performs on par or better than almost anything expectations is/was quite high.
I find it very hard to compare the sharpness. I also don't get the big difference in framing between the shots from both lenses (unless the Samyang is really a ~38mm lens?).

The translated page states that the Samyang is not as wide as the Canon. I would be curious as to the actual focal length of both because the Canon is certainly wider by enough margin to really notice.
Another thing, they will apparently ship a version with AF-confirm. And since the comparison is with 35L I assume there will be a Canon version with this feature. Good news.
Samyang 35/1.4 looks to have much less coma wide open than the 35L and better color.Would need crops to judge sharpness between the two.
I would like to see the Samy 35 compared to the old C/Y 35/1.4 and the new ZE 35/1.4.

Keep in mind that the above test was on a lower MP/ resolution Nikon D700. What happens on a current 20+MP body? IF the test is representative of the lens, things are going to look even worse.
Should be a perfect match for my 5D, then.
(Hi guys)
(Andre, the Troll Hunter movie looks very cool. Can't wait to see it)
